4- Subverting Death

What does it mean to subvert death?

Subversion literally means to “turn from beneath” or to undermine authority.  Subversion is a transfer of power that doesn’t come by might, but by another kind of power.

So often the Easter story is reduced to an appeal of historical data. This limits the Easter story to a clean up job for our naughtiness. In this weeks broadcast, I will offer a much bigger Easter story and prove that subversion, everywhere we see it, is the ongoing effect of dying in order to find new life. This means Easter is everywhere, all the time.

Join me now as we learn to see the resurrection beyond everything.

3- Three Tests of Anesthesia

Are you under the influence of anesthesia?

That probably seems like an odd question, but anesthesia is a powerful metaphor that will stick in your mind. In today’s broadcast, we continue our series on John the Baptist and transition to the proving grounds just prior to Jesus’ ministry.

Join me now as we see beyond the temptations of Jesus and learn why I call them the three forms of anesthesia.

2. The Forerunner of Subversion

“Does your understanding of the gospel take into account how subversive it is to institutional power?”

Today we continue to go deeper into the life and message of John the Baptist. We saw last week he was the forerunner of a wide-open message of forgiveness. This week we will see how the two largest institutions of power, Religion and State, react to such a message of liberation.

Let’s jump in behind the trail that John is blazing so that we can see beyond everything.

1-The Forerunner of Forgiveness

“Who was John the Baptist? And what was he really talking about?” Anyone with even a small amount of bible knowledge is familiar with the character of John the Baptist. He was distinct in a world that had long hoped to hear his message. But what was that message? And to what exactly was he the forerunner?

In today’s broadcast we start a series where we look closer at John’s life and message. He doesn’t go to church, he eats bugs, and he was the forerunner of forgiveness.

5- Living, Moving and Being

“What does it mean to have our BEING in God?”

In some ways our world is not unlike the Ancient world of Athens. Paul’s sermon opens up the “God Conversation” to a theology that had tremendous liberating power. Surprisingly, it doesn’t come with a contest of who has the bigger God, in fact it doesn’t come from a religious framework at all.

Join me now as we look deeper at Paul’s theology of living, moving and being as it enables us to see beyond everything.

4- Nations of Feelers and Crawlers

Where did we get the idea that everyone has to believe the same thing when it comes to God?

Given the diversity of human experience around the world, how could that even be possible? Yet the mission of the church has largely been built on institutionalizing a particular process of saving souls by conversion to Corporate Christianity.

Join me now as we look deeper at Paul’s view of humanity as we learn to see beyond the religious frameworks into a faith that is ultimately beyond everything.

3- Life, Breath, and Everything

”Is God only found in some things, or in everything?”

Today we continue looking at Paul’s sermon in Athens where he reframes the Greek two-story religion of God up there and us down here, into a living faith where God is the Maker of all things and is thus in all things, through all things and beyond everything.

This idea was so revolutionary the Greeks insisted he stay and help them see this. Let’s join Paul today as we also learn to see beyond everything.

2- I see you are Religious

”What does it mean to be Religious?” Ever notice how the world looks at all the religions and concludes that they are all basically the same? From the outside looking in, it’s not so easy to tell them apart. Today we are continuing our look at Paul’s sermon in Athens because he’s laying the foundation for what religion is and how faith is different. Paul proves that faith in Christ was not intended to be another competitive religion, but something totally different that puts everyone into the conversation. By learning about our own frameworks of religion we will learn to see Paul’s framework much clearer and that enables us to See Beyond Everything.

122-The Guy Who Posts Religious Stuff

This will be the last “rerun” for a while as we will begin broadcasting “Beyond Everything Radio” next week. This post comes from 2015 and I talk about what we all experience every single day. What goes on inside our heads when we hear people post various things online? What happens when someone posts something about God? In this post and podcast I share an experience with someone else’s message, while totally owning the fact that to others, I am that guy. When we boil it down, we discover that we are all in the same boat. None of us have all the truth, while we all have some of it. Thus we are all partial believers in the truth. What a great place to start learning. I hope you’ll tune in today.

121- The Gospel We Just Can’t Believe

In a survey I performed in 2015 I asked the question: “What is the Gospel?” In this post and podcast I share the most common answers to this question and then share what I think is the best definition I’ve been able to find. I will propose that the Gospel which is supposed to possess transforming power, is actually somewhat impotent until the definition of terms permeates our personal inner experience to change. This opens up a really big frameshift where the Gospel is either NOT limited to Christianity, or it’s saying Christianity is not an alternative religion as it’s often claimed to be. Tune in and see if your definition is big enough, if it’s not, then put your seatbelt on because it’s going to be an epic ride.
